The Word Chapel is a non-denominational internet location for the study of the bible, sermons, songs, and resources that would assist you in worshiping God from your location around the world. The Word Chapel is not intended to replace your local church. It is for those who want more Bible study, who are shut-in, who travel or are away from home. The Word Chapel offers a place to read and hear God's Word from wherever you are in the world.
I am Larry Joe McDowell and this is my ministry. I am retired from the military and spent the last two decades programming. When I received the call to ministry in 2015, I decided to take The Word Chapel on as a ministry combining my skills in web development along with my years of music ministry, bible teaching experience and studies as a graduate student at Luther Rice University.
I first dedicated myself to the Lord at the ripe old age of nine. I spent much of my life in music ministry until I got the call to Ministry in 2015. I began music ministry on the organ at the age of 15. I played for three years, then joined the Army, retiring after 20 years. During my time in the Army and afterwards, I was organist, pianist and sometimes music director for chapels and churches in several countries around the world.
I married a Chinese lady, Hong, in my travels, having lived in her hometown of Jiangmen, Guangdong, China for a year. She joined me in the States and gives me a hand occasionally with my varied ministries, especially those involving food. I am currently teaching adult Sunday School for First Baptist Church of Hoover, AL. I have participated in speaking at my local church and spent 20 years off and on speaking as a Gideon at various churches and denominations. It is based on this experience, and more recent formal theological education, that I present you with the sermons and bible studies on this website.
You can contact me by email at larrymcdowell [at] thewordchapel.com. Since this is a small operation and I am a full-time graduate student, please allow a day or two for a response. By the way, please keep it friendly, as Jesus would have us behave. If you find any bugs or have ideas to improve the site, please feel free to contact me.
Your prayers and support are appreciated.
Brother Larry Joe
